About the Editor
Karen E. Kim, MD, MS is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, a member of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Research Center, and a faculty affiliate for the Center for Race, Culture and Politics. Dr. Kim graduated with honors from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, completed her internal medicine residency training at Northwestern University and her Gastroenterology Research Fellowship at the University of Illinois. Dr. Kim’s areas of interest include community-based participatory research in health disparities for cancer screening and clinical trial participation, and colon cancer chemoprevention.
Dr. Kim serves on numerous public health committees, including chairperson of the Colorectal Cancer Work Group and an advisor for the Cancer Disparities Work Group, Illinois Cancer Control Program, and Illinois Department of Public Health, a member of the State of Illinois Cancer Control Task Force, and the Racial and Ethnic Disparities Advisory Council. She is the president of the Asian Health Coalition of Illinois, and recently Dr. Kim established and now chairs the Asian Cancer Prevention Organization.
Finally, Dr. Kim has been the recipient of numerous awards including the American Cancer Society Partnership/Community Service Award for promoting community-based cancer awareness and screening, the Illinois Health Education Consortium/Asian Health Coalition, Public Health Advocacy Award, the Gastroenterology Faculty Teaching Award, University of Chicago Gastroenterology Fellowship and was recently inducted as a fellow into the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators at the University of Chicago.
