Essentials in Physical Therapy
Series Editor: Marilyn Moffat, PT, DPT, PhD, FAPTA, CSCS, New York University, New York, NY
The Essentials in Physical Therapy series answers the call to what todays physical therapy students and clinicians are looking for when integrating the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice into clinical care.
Essentials in Physical Therapy is led by Series Editor Dr. Marilyn Moffat, who brings together physical therapy's leading professionals to produce the most anticipated series of books in the physical therapy market to cover the four main systems:
- Integumentary
- Neuromuscular
- Cardiopulmonary
- Musculoskeletal
The Essentials in Physical Therapy series includes four books edited by Katherine Biggs Harris, Joanell A. Bohmert, Dr. Janice B. Hulme, Dr. Donna Frownfelter, Dr. Elaine Rosen, and Dr. Sandra Rusnak-Smith.
Written in a similar, user-friendly format, each book inside the Essentials in Physical Therapy series not only brings together the conceptual frameworks of the Guide language, but also parallels the patterns of the Guide.
In each case, where appropriate, a brief review of the pertinent anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, imaging, and pharmacology is provided. Each pattern then details diversified case studies coinciding with the Guide format. The physical therapist examination, including history, systems review, and specific tests and measures for each case, as well as evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, plan of care, and evidence-based interventions are also addressed.
At long last, a series of books has been created that will integrate the parameters of the Guide into the practice arena that not only covers the material but also allows for a problem-solving approach to learning for educators and students.
From the Foreword for the Essentials in Physical Therapy Series:
Although the Guide lays the foundation for the entire diagnostic process used by a physical therapist as a movement specialist, many colleagues have difficulty bridging the gap between this model for the entire patient management process and its application to an individual consumer of physical therapy services. Through Dr. Moffats vision, she recognized this gap and has again tried to link the highest standard of professional process to the patient/client and his or her specific needs. When you take the leadership of the Editor and combine that with the expertise and clinical mastery of the various chapter authors, the quality of these texts already sets the highest standard of literary reference for an experienced, novel, or student physical therapist.
